About This Data

Air quality data is sourced from EPA monitoring stations via the AirNow network. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is calculated from measurements of five major pollutants: ground-level ozone, particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. Each value is the latest observation AirNow had published when this page was built. Cities are sorted within each state by AQI value, with the cleanest air first.
